What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy is a type of manual therapy that involves the application of pressure to specific points in the body known as trigger points. These points are located in the muscles and soft tissues and are believed to be the source of pain, discomfort, and referred pain in other parts of the body.

Trigger points form as a result of overuse, injury, stress, or other physical or emotional factors. They can cause pain, tightness, and decreased range of motion in the affected area. They can also refer pain to other parts of the body, which can make it difficult to determine the source of the pain.

In trigger point therapy, the therapist uses their fingers, hands, or massage tools to apply pressure to the trigger points, releasing the tension and reducing pain. The pressure can be applied directly to the trigger point or used to stretch the surrounding muscle fibers. The therapist may also use stretching, range of motion exercises, and other techniques to help relax the muscles and improve flexibility.

I do not offer solely trigger point massages, but that is one of the techniques I use frequently in my practice. If you are looking for a lot of trigger point work, be sure to let me know and I can incorporate more of that into our session.
