What is IASTM?

IASTM, or Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, is a type of manual therapy that involves the use of instruments to apply pressure and traction to soft tissue. The goal of IASTM is to break down scar tissue and improve the quality of soft tissue, leading to improved function and reduced pain.

IASTM is often used in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. It is performed by healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and occupational therapists, who have been trained in the proper use of the instruments and techniques involved in the therapy.

The instruments used in IASTM have a beveled edge that is designed to glide over the skin and target the underlying soft tissue structures. The bodyworker will apply gentle to moderate pressure to the affected area, using the instrument to perform specific strokes and techniques. The pressure and traction applied during IASTM is thought to help break down scar tissue and stimulate the growth of healthy tissue.

Similar to cupping, I currently do not charge extra for this service like many places do. If you want me to work some IASTM into the session, just be sure to mention that to me preferably at the beginning of the session.
